WWE Reportedly Looking Into Weekly Cruiserweight Classic TV Series for the Network
– During a recent edition of Wrestling Observer Radio (via Wrestlezone.com), Dave Meltzer addressed the rumor of WWE creating a weekly Cruiserweight Classic series that would air on WWE Network. The idea for this show is not for it to be a traditional tournament similar to the original. Instead, it would be more an episodic NXT type of show, featuring cruiserweight talents from all across the globe. Additionally, cruiserweights already signed by WWE would appear on the show.
The plan for this show is still reportedly only in the discussion phase. WWE has not revealed any official plans for a weekly Cruiserweight Classic TV series. It’s unknown how this could potentially affect the cruiserweight division currently featured on Raw, or who would work the show.
As reported earlier, a weekly cruiserweight TV series for the WWE Network was mentioned in a survey from WWE asking fans if they’d pay for a tier of the Network that offered such a series in addition to live NXT TV episodes every week. The survey also mentioned independent wrestling programming on the WWE Network “such as TNA and Ring of Honor.”
