Kurt Angle Reveals How Much UFC Offered Him In 1997
In an interview with WhatCulture, Kurt Angle spoke about almost being signed by the UFC, his time in TNA and more. Here are highlights:
– He said he’s completely healthy. His matches in January will be his last with TNA. His plan is to take about a year off then return to wrestling.
When asked about being a part of Bellator, he said: “I signed a deal with Bellator to commentate. I signed with an agency to do more movies. I always wanted to fight, but at 46, that’s looking really slim.”
– He said he was approached by the UFC in 1997 but couldn’t agree on the money. He was offered a ten fight deal for $150,000. He later talked to Dana White in 2006 but he didn’t want to completely leave pro wrestling.
– He spoke about his early days in WWE and his debut in early 1999 on Sunday Night Heat in a segment with Tiger Ali Singh.
– He praised Chad Gable and Jason Jordan and said they don’t want to compare themselves to others who have started as amateur wrestlers.
– He said he’s better as a heel because he doesn’t have flashy babyface offense but it’s hard to be a bad guy now.
