Csonka’s WWE 205 Live Review 4.18.17

OFFICIAL RESULTS
– Akira Tozawa defeated Tony Nese @ 5:57 via pin [**½]
– Ariya Daivari defeated Mustafa Ali @ 6:55 via pin [**½]
– Austin Aries defeated TJ Perkins @ 11:50 via pin [***]

Akira Tozawa vs. Tony Nese: They lock up and work a basic back and forth, leading to Nese posing a bit. Nese looks to over power Tozawa, but Tozawa fires up and lays in strikes as Nese takes a powder. Tozawa chases him, back in and more strikes from Tozawa and then a kick and senton follow for 2. Nese takes another powder, but rushes back in to cut off the Tozawa dive. Nese lays the boots to Tozawa, as Kendrick arrives to watch from ringside. Tozawa fights off the suplex with knee strikes, but Nese over powers him and drops him gut first onto the top rope. Nese then works the torture rack, but Tozawa escapes and then hits the RANA. Tozawa sends Nese to the floor, hits the suicide dive and stares down Kendrick. Back in the ring and Tozawa hits a running kick and covers for 2. Nese fights off the German and then lands crossface strikes; Kendrick tries to get involved, the ref stops him and Tozawa gets a sunset flip for the win. Akira Tozawa defeated Tony Nese @ 5:57 via pin [**½] Solid enough match, but it was missing something and the finish came off flat. It worked in regards to the Kendrick vs. Tozawa feud, but didn’t feel like a satisfying conclusion.

– Nese then attacks Kendrick and lays him out, allowing Tozawa to mock him afterwards. I love condescending Tozawa.

The Young & The Restless: Dar and Swann go back and forth on the mic, with Dar saying he’s going to slap Swann around. Alicia Fox arrives, Dar and Swann make plays for her affection, and Fox says she thought Dar was the future of 205 Live, but she got to know him, and says he is immature, his cologne stinks and he can’t cook. Fox says she’s been using him, because she never cared about him. She is annoyed when he says “Alicia Fooooooooooooooooooooox.” She tells him that they are through. She tells him to snap to it as the crowd sings. “Hey hey, goodbye.” Fox then tells Swann that she wants to thank him for all of the gifts, and Swann says they all came from the heart. Fox wants to give Swann what he deserves, but Swann cut her off, and says to remember Cedric Alexander; Fox broke his heart for Euro-trash. Swann says the world knows what kind of person she is and that is his gift to her. Fox then yells at the crowd, mocking their what chants. So Rich Swann, beloved babyface, played with a woman’s emotions and broke up her relationship to get some revenge for his friend; bros before hoes I suppose. This whole arc with Alexander, Fox, Dar & Swann has done nothing for me in anyway. The “acting” is bad and no one comes across as likeable.

– We get video of Daivari showing up in a fancy car earlier today, wearing flashy clothes and jewelry. So they have decided to give Daivari the rich, douche bag heel character.

Mustafa Ali vs. Ariya Daivari: They work some basic back and forth, leading to a stalemate. Daivari they tries to use his power vs. Ali’s speed, but Ali stays a step ahead and goes for some pinning combos. Daivari cuts him off with a boot to the gut, but Ali sends him to the floor with a dropkick and the dive follows. Daivari pulls Ali to the apron and hits a belly to back suplex onto the apron to take control. Daivari takes the heat, working the back of Ali and then pummeling him with strikes. Ali looks to fire up but jumps into a spinebuster, and Daivari covers for 2. Ali manages to hit a spin wheel kick, the RANA followed and then the enziguri. The rolling neck breaker gets 2. Daivari catches Ali with a boot, he looks to fly but jumps into the dropkick. Ali looks to finish things off as Gulak arrives to protest high flying. That allows Daivari to attack, and hit his version of the rainmaker and pick up the win. Ariya Daivari defeated Mustafa Ali @ 6:55 via pin [**½] This was another perfectly fine match, with the purpose being to officially kick off the Ali vs. Gulak feud after weeks of teases and to introduce Daivari’s new character.

– Gulak says 205 has a bright future, but that’s not Ali’s reckless highflying brand of wrestling; he wants to make a better 205 Live.

Austin Aries vs. TJ Perkins: Perkins bails to the floor right away, stalling a bit to begin. Perkins returns, attacking with strikes and working aggressively. Aries quickly fights back, grounding Perkins and working the arm. Perkins works a head scissors and dabs, but you can’t head scissors Austin Aries, and he escapes. Perkins then stuns Aries off the ropes, misses the senton, but Aries fights back and sends him to the floor and hits the heat-seeking missile. Back in as Aries heads up top, Perkins crotches him and then lays in some ground and pound. Perkins lays in the uppercuts, stomps on Aries’ face, and then covers while dabbing. Aries fires back with strikes, but Perkins hits a springboard high cross for 2. Perkins then ties up the legs and works a butterfly lock. Aries gets to his feet, they trade strikes but Perkins misses the standing senton. Aries fires up with the running forearm, strikes and chops; the STO and pendulum elbow follow for 2. Aries hits a neck breaker in the ropes and heads back up top, goes for the 450 but Perkins rolls away and Aries lands on his feet, tweaking him knee. Perkins locks in the knee bar, Aries fights and makes the ropes. Perkins lays in kicks to the leg, Aries fights back with forearms, but Perkins counters the rolling forearm and then they blew the chicken wing/gutbuster spot. Aries counters the detonation kick, hits a knee breaker into a belly to back suplex. Aries then hits the forearm strike, up top and hits the 450, but Perkins gets a foot on the ropes. Aries locks in the last chancery, Perkins fights and makes the ropes. Perkins bails to the floor, Aries follows and rolls Perkins back in but Perkins dropkicked the ropes into his face, Aries escapes the detonation kick and hits the rolling forearm for the win. Austin Aries defeated TJ Perkins @ 11:50 via pin [***] Outside of the one bad botch, they worked really hard and put on a good match. The uninterested crowd hurt things, and I wish that the match had more of a sense of urgency and revenge from Aries.

– Neville arrives and charges the ring and brawls with Aries. Aries locks in the last chancery, but Perkins makes the save. They lay the boots to Aries; Perkins hits the detonation kick allowing Neville to lock in the rings of Saturn. Neville and his advocate stand tall.

– End scene.

– Thanks for reading.

This week’s 205 live was a solid and inoffensive show, but with nothing to really make you feel as if you needed to watch and the dead crowd, felt like a struggle to watch at times. They need to do something, I’m not 100% sure of the answer, but moving it to before Smackdown or to Full Sail are certainly options; I hate seeing these guys working their asses off for little to no reaction, it’s depressing.
