#6 - Wrestlemania VI | Roddy Piper Paints Half His Body

Rowdy Roddy Piper was never known to be a politically correct character by any stretch. But his feud with Bad News Brown was the kind of stuff that made you turn off the TV rather than watch because of the controversy.

It culminated with Piper painting half his body black for the big Wrestlemania payoff match with Brown.

The only problem with this was that it really made no sense. Was it supposed to be a statement on racism? How he is tolerant? But isn’t “blackface” a supreme insult to black people in general?

Many can question Piper’s craziness over the years, but most of the time it was at least entertaining. At Wrestlemania 6, not only was it not entertaining, but it was baffling and served to offend a lot of people, for good reason.

Tom Daniels on Piper:
Roddy Piper paints himself half black and half white to symbolize he's an idiot. In a match against Bad News Brown, Piper wanted to symbolize racial unity... I guess.
