Wrestlemania 9 is generally regarded as the Worst Wrestlemania ever by most fans, and with good reason. From top to bottom the card is basically a stinker, and nothing better represents WM9 than the ill fated and nauseating finish involving Hulk Hogan.
Yokozuna vs. Bret Hart was the booked main event. Bret had won the World Title at a house show over Ric Flair, who was leaving the promotion. Yokozuna had a super push going into Wrestlemania 9, and it looked as if he'd be the first heel to ever come out of WM as champion.
And the match did in fact go as expected, with Mr. Fuji blinding Bret Hart with salt en route to the Japanese sumo becoming WWF World Champion. But then in one of the most amazing moments in WWF history, Mr. Fuji challenged Hulk Hogan to a title match.
And, in only a minute or so, Hogan beat Yokozuna and left WM9 as WWF Champion. Hogan somehow had convinced WWF officials that he was still the top dog in the WWF and that he should be the champion. While some continued to mark out for Hogan, many were sickened by this move, and there was a severe backlash against him.
Luckily, his drawing power seemed to be gone, and Vince McMahon had Yokozuna regain the title at King of the Ring, and Hogan was never again seen in the WWF.
Rom Gamble on Yokozuna vs. Hulk Hogan, WM IX
Hogan came back to the WWF with the promise of regaining the WWF Title. He
did it through this 40-second "match" after Yokozuna won the title from
Bret Hart. I don't care how Hogan got that black eye, but he deserved much
more.
