#8 - Wrestlemania X | Owen Hart Pins Bret Hart

The WWF had already risked a lot to push Bret Hart as a singles wrestler after the successful run of the Hart Foundation. Bret, who’s working man gimmick worked like a charm to propel him into superstardom, was now a main event level star in the WWF.

His younger brother Owen was also in the WWF, and had even more stacked against him. Owen didn’t have the good looks of Bret, and wasn’t as good on the mic. However, Owen did have exceptional in ring skill, and an in ring charisma that is bred in Stu Hart’s Dungeon.

After years of playing a fresh faced good guy, Owen finally got jealous of his brother on camera, and challenged him to a match at Wresltemania 10. And when it opened the event in Madison Square Garden, almost no one predicted that Owen would come away as the victor. He overcame the odds and won cleaning with a Victory Roll.

This match would rank higher on this list, but the push didn’t take for Owen, who did not get the main event rub from the win that he should have.

Note that a teenaged Widro in attendance at WMX brought a sign to the event that said “after Bret is done, Owen will be a broken Hart” but it was not only not featured on camera, but it was false.

Ron Gamble on the Battle of the Brothers:
Owen was a frustrated young man. He was seen as "Bret's younger brother." When they became a tag team and tried to make a run at the titles, Bret was seen as the star of the team. After their match at the Royal Rumble with the Quebecers for the titles, the match was called because Bret's knee was too injured to continue. This match easily ranks in the top ten of WrestleMania history, but my favorite part was the reactions of both men afterward. Owen walked across the ring, got in Bret's face, and simply held up three fingers before walking away. Bret sat in the ring, mouth open, shocked that he lost to his brother. Great match, and great way to set up the series of matches they had for the title for the next six months.
