#10 - Goldberg vs. Hogan: The Birth of a Star

1998 will be remembered by most as the year the WWF returned to power in the pro-wrestling industry, but it will also be remembered as the year of Goldberg. Win after win, Goldberg came out of no where to rise in the ranks of WCW. Previously unheard of in wrestling, Goldberg beat opponent after opponent every week on WCW TV. However he had yet to beat the "big name" he needed to become a star. Enter Hulk Hogan.

Hogan, the most well known pro-wrestler of all time, a man who in the past had refused to job on countless occasions. August of 1998. The WWF was starting to get into a pattern of Monday night wins with WCW approaching a show from their home turf of the Georgia Dome. With the show getting closer, WCW shockingly announced that a Goldberg/Hogan match would headline the show. WCW put it all on the line in an attempt to regain the ratings advantage.

However the ratings aside, speculation went rampant about whether Hulk Hogan would actually job to the rookie named Goldberg. The moment arrived and soon after the match started, we saw the one-two punch of the spear and jackhammer. Goldberg had beaten the legendary Hulk Hogan and had become pro-wrestling's newest "superstar".

Goldberg also proved that not only was he over with the live crowd, he could draw. WCW Monday Nitro beat WWF RAW is WAR riding off the amazingly successful rating of Goldberg's win over Hulk Hogan.

Those who followed the "sport" during August of 1998 will surely remember the 'net being lit up minutes after Goldberg's win over Hogan. Since that time, Goldberg has become one of the top stars in the game, and has even garnered the tag as WCW's "savior", all of which started at the Georgia Dome when Goldberg got the 1-2-3 on Hulk Hogan.
