MMA Junkie reports that former Dallas Cowboy defensive end Greg Hardy is moving to MMA. He does not have a martial arts background. He’s been training for the last several months in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and several promotions are interested in signing him.

Hardy said: “I’m very focused and excited to start my MMA career. I’m going to do this the right way, I can assure you of that.

When Hardy was part of the Carolina Panthers, he missed most of the 2014 season. He was put on the comissioner’s exempt list after a domestic violence incident with a former girlfriend. He also missed the first four games of the 2015 NFL season while under suspension for the case. The original suspension was ten games but an arbitrator reduced it. He played with the Panthers for five seasons before a one-year deal with the Cowboys. He was unable to get a new team during the NFL’s off-season. His best run in the NFL was in 2013 when hit fifteen sacks and was part of the Pro Bowl team.

His troubles got worse last month after he was arrested for cocaine possession in the Dallas suburb of Richardson. Hardy weighs 285 pounds and will likely debut as a heavyweight some time in 2017.

He said: “I’m fully committed to being as successful as I can be in this sport.
